A Florida man leaves empty-handed after being charged with attempting to break into a locked bank

The Martin County Sheriff's Office claims that a Florida man is charged with attempting to break into a closed bank while donning a mask that he got at a nearby gas station.

Around 7 p.m. on Saturday, deputies received a report of a "bank robbery in progress" from the Wells Fargo bank, which is located on US 1 in Hobe Sound, according to their bank security video surveillance system.

The bank's security system staff reported a man wearing a mask inside the branch. The Martin County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) swiftly encircled the bank and responded. However, nobody was inside not even the suspect, ensuring the safety of the community, a portion of the news statement stated.

The alarm firm later informed the deputies that although they had waited for at least an hour before contacting the police, the masked man had already left.

The announcement stated that a man from Hobe Sound, later identified as 33-year-old Colton Vanhonhenstien, was seen buying a mask on a petrol station camera. After crossing the street, he entered the bank through the unlocked doors and began to open the cabinets and drawers, only to find them empty. This detailed account of the incident provides a comprehensive understanding of the events.

Then Vanhonhenstien walked out of the bank with nothing.

"The suspect was located and arrested this afternoon because security footage clearly captured images of him purchasing the mask used in this incident," the announcement said.

Vanhonhenstien is accused of burglary, according to deputies. The release said that detectives are unsure of the reasons behind the bank's open doors and the security company's one-hour wait for the dispatch of deputies.
