Davis Thompson's historic victory at the John Deere Classic sets a record

Introduction

Davis Thompson's victory in the John Deere Classic was nothing short of historic. His 7-under 64 on Sunday not only secured his maiden PGA Tour championship but also set a new 72-hole scoring record, overshadowing all other drama in the tournament.

His Performance

Thompson's performance was nothing short of dominant. He quickly seized a two-shot lead after sinking a remarkable 45-foot birdie putt on the first hole.
From that point on, no one could even come close to his lead. With five birdies in his first six holes, Thompson extended his lead to an impressive six shots, eventually winning by four strokes. His final score of 28-under 256 not only secured his victory but also broke Michael Kim's 2018 John Deere Classic record.
Following his victory, he will be eligible to compete in the following three majors, beginning with the British Open at Royal Troon in two weeks.

Awards

In April of next year, he will also play in the Masters. After making birdies on the sixteenth and seventeenth holes, C.T. Pan shot 64 to share the lead with Luke Clanton, a sophomore at Florida State, and Michael Thorbjornsen, the top player in the PGA Tour University rankings. Everybody fired sixty-three. Given his higher world ranking, Pan was awarded a berth at the British Open. With his two consecutive PGA Tour starts, Clanton became the first amateur to finish in the top 10 since Billy Joe Patton in 1958.
