According to stadium legislation that the City Council could pass on Tuesday, the Jaguars can play up to three home games in London during the 2027 season. EverBank Stadium will be closed to football games due to renovations.
The Jaguars are also looking into Camping World Stadium in Orlando and Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at the University of Florida in Gainesville as potential home game venues for the 2027 season when construction on a $1.4 billion upgrade of the city-owned stadium will be at its peak.
The Jaguars have been the most active NFL franchise in playing games at international venues and increasing football interest in the United Kingdom. The proposed agreement would allow the team to continue playing at least one home game in London each year, as it has for the past decade and will do again this season. The arrangement also allows the Jaguars to play more than one home game in London in certain years.
The Jaguars want to be able to set up venues outside of Jacksonville for the 2027 season due to construction, according to team President Mark Lamping, who spoke Thursday at a City Council meeting devoted to stadium legislation.
He stated that the Jaguars are "almost certain" to use either the Orlando or Gainesville stadiums or a mixture.
"The other aspect that we have that would give us protection for the 2027 season is for that one season â and for that season alone â we would have the option, not the requirement, but the option to play up to three games outside Jacksonville in London," according to Lamping.
The proposed arrangement also would allow the Jaguars to play up to three home games away from Jacksonville during the 2025 and 2026 seasons. For example, the team may play two games in London or elsewhere outside of Jacksonville during one of those seasons, then one home game elsewhere the following season, for three games throughout the two years.
Furthermore, the deal would allow the mayor to enable extra home games to be played outside of Jacksonville during the next two years, for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, if the Jaguars demonstrate that it is necessary based on building progress.
The Jaguars had stated a year ago that the scope of the reconstruction would eliminate all home games at EverBank Stadium in 2026 and 2027 to complete the work by the 2028 season.
